Senior Environmental Scientist/Engineer (LG/LHG/PE)

No one's ever become a leader in their field by waiting around to see what other people are doing.

We believe that strategic innovation, collaboration and commitment to social and environmental responsibility, are the principles that lead to real and lasting success.

Floyd|Snider is an employee-owned environmental consulting firm offering strategy, science, and engineering solutions in the private and public sectors. Founded in 1996, Floyd|Snider has consistently been recognized as one of the premier firms in the Northwest and a top place to work. Our people love it here because we don't do cookie-cutter work; we work collaboratively on the most complex, fascinating projects.

Now we're looking to add a new member to our senior team who exemplifies our commitment to technical excellence, environmental responsibility, and customer service.

That's where you come in

As our new Senior Environmental Scientist/Engineer, you'll provide oversight and leadership for our established and growing Uplands Remediation sector. Using a sound knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, you'll provide guidance and leadership while developing our business.

Most of your activity will be focused on cleanup and redevelopment of contaminated upland and waterfront properties. Working with a team of other professionals, you'll be involved in every stage of remediation projects, from site evaluation, costing and planning, to project management and construction oversight.

You'll also be responsible for fostering long-term, strategic client and teaming relationships, and working as a member of our leadership team on business development and company direction. The very best in this role stay current on trends in business, and find ways to adjust our business model to remain competitive and effective in the marketplace.

Beyond your environmental knowledge and expertise, we're looking for someone with the following qualities:

  • Leadership - you're at your best when leading by example. You relish the opportunity to provide guidance and mentorship to junior staff, producing a whole new generation of talented, dedicated professionals.
  • Business acumen - you understand the business side of our industry, and use existing contacts and excellent communication skills to find new projects and opportunities for us to do what we do best.
  • Analytic - when it comes to mapping complex problems, and generating innovative and effective strategies, you're capable and confident in even the most stressful situations.

Working With Us

This is a full-time, permanent position with typical hours from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm (although those can be flexible according to your schedule, provided you maintain 40 hours per week). We also offer a bonus structure, equity and ownership options, 401K, a full benefits package, and life insurance.

We're a socially responsible business that considers all our stakeholders - environment, planet, community, and supply chain. We're serious about doing business better. These values led us to become a B Corporation. That's why we are always finding ways to give back: and so will you with one week of paid volunteer time each year.

We've got a spectacular group of people, and if you enjoy teaming up with some very smart people in a variety of fields solving real, complex, and important problems, then this is the place for you.

Environmental Engineer (Sediment Remediation Focus)

You became an environmental engineer because you care about the planet, and you enjoy tackling the tough, important challenges.

You're looking for a firm with a purpose that engages you, and a culture that energizes you.
We're Floyd|Snider and we've been looking for you.

We're an employee-owned environmental consulting firm offering strategy, science, and engineering solutions in the private and public sectors. Founded in 1996, Floyd|Snider has consistently been recognized as one of the premier firms in the Northwest and a top place to work. Our people love it here because we don't do cookie-cutter work; we work collaboratively on the most complex, fascinating projects.

Now we're looking to add a new environmental or civil engineer to our collaborative team that is accomplishing high-profile aquatic sediment remediation and habitat restoration projects throughout the Pacific Northwest. We're looking for someone who exemplifies our commitment to technical excellence, environmental responsibility, and customer service.

That's where you come in.

As our new environmental engineer, your priority will be to manage tasks to completion. These tasks will each be an element, and often a meaty part, of a larger remediation project. The list of tasks you'll be involved in include, site evaluation, feasibility studies, regulatory negotiations, design drawings and specifications, and implementation oversight. You'll also have the opportunity to participate in proposal preparation and client interviews.

The project manager or principal engineer will assign the task to you and you'll bring together the necessary resources and people to get it done. You'll coordinate with internal staff and contractors to pull together their contributions. You'll communicate directly with clients and agency representatives to ensure success in all phases of the work.

In addition to your day-to-day work, you'll participate in research and analysis on emerging issues, develop tools and practices for the firm, and mentor younger engineers on the team.
Beyond your environmental knowledge and expertise, we're looking for someone with the following qualities:

  • Organizational skills - you see the big picture and the details. You're able to juggle competing priorities without dropping the ball.
  • Leadership - you're at your best when you're bringing the best out of others. You relish the opportunity to steward important tasks, and mentor junior staff.
  • Communication skills - you'll be interacting with clients, project managers, consultants, contractors and vendors across multiple projects. You can adjust your style to suit any audience, and achieve clarity in every medium.

The Details

This is a full-time, permanent position with typical hours from Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm. There will be some overtime based on your projects, and you'll get that back in extra time off. Regional travel is a part of this role, especially in the summertime. You won't typically go more than 3 hours away, and we'll cover all your expenses. Usually you'll return home every night, but for longer trips, we'll make sure to get you home for weekends.

We offer an excellent compensation package, which includes a salary between $75,000 and $85,000 per year, commensurate with experience. We offer a bonus structure, equity and ownership options, 401K, a full benefits package, and life insurance.

Your professional growth is a priority to us. You'll have our support to further your development, and participate in conferences.
