Associated Petroleum Products

Floyd|Snider and KPFF worked together to design an advanced stormwater collection and treatment system for the Associated Petroleum Products (APP) main headquarters bulk tank farm in Tacoma, Washington. As part of a legal settlement agreement with the Washington State Department of Ecology (Ecology), APP needed to update their stormwater collection and treatment system and meet the terms of their new individual National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) stormwater permit. KPFF designed the stormwater collection system, which is capable of handling 600 gallons per minute peak flow, and Floyd|Snider specified the treatment technologies for removal of benzene, copper, zinc, turbidity, and petroleum hydrocarbons. The new system was installed in 2011 and has met the regulatory discharge requirements of the new permit. Floyd|Snider has also worked with APP to improve the performance of the system by the addition of crushed oyster shells and other innovative pH controls to control zinc levels.
