Lisa Meoli and Ainsley McCullough to Present at AEHS Foundation West 35th Annual International Conference on Soil, Water, Energy, and Air

Lisa Meoli, Senior Environmental Historian, and Ainsley McCullough, GIS Analyst, will present at the Association for Environmental Health & Sciences (AEHS) Foundation – West 35th Annual International Conference on Soil, Water, Energy, and Air on March 17, 2026, in San Diego, CA.

Their presentation, Strategic Spatial Visualization of Historical Context & Environmental Data, will feature a StoryMaps project that highlighted the Environmental History of the West Duwamish Greenbelt Trails.

Lisa and Ainsley will demonstrate how integrating archival research with modern geospatial tools strengthens environmental site investigations, particularly at complex legacy industrial sites. By combining historical sources, such as aerial imagery, maps, and corporate records, with ArcGIS and Adobe Illustrator, their methodology transforms historical data into clear, time-based visualizations that support conceptual site models, site characterization, liability allocation, and litigation strategy.

Using a case study from the StoryMaps project, they will show how historically informed visualizations help investigators, consultants, and legal teams reconstruct site history, identify undocumented waste practices, correlate contamination with specific operations, and improve communication and defensibility in regulatory and legal contexts.
