A Social Purpose Corporation

In 2017, Floyd|Snider Shareholders agreed unanimously to change our corporate structure to a Social Purpose Corporation.

We are dedicated to supporting a good quality of life for our employees; we offer benefits and shares in company ownership for all employees, comfortable and ergonomic office spaces, and opportunities for professional and personal growth.

We strive to make a positive impact to the natural, built, and social environment.

We promote health and wellness for our staff, helping employees maintain a sustainable work/life balance.

We integrate sustainable practices into our fieldwork and office operations.

We believe that individuality is a strength to the team; we celebrate our differences and commonalities.

We ensure meaningful ownership to our employees through company stock and input in company decisions.

We give back to the community through volunteering, serving on boards, and providing financial contributions.

Company Culture

Our community is our key strength.

Floyd|Snider is built on our ability to collaborate. We work in teams—with our colleagues, with other firms, and in collaboration with our clients.

Our project portfolio allows our staff to follow their passion and stretch their knowledge, in collaboration with an experienced mentor. Our flat organization gives all employees access to Principals, ensuring direct, productive response to recommendations, opportunities, and concerns.

Our sense of community reaches past our work. We craft frequent opportunities for socializing together, volunteering together, creating together—from book club to art classes, kayaking to climbing—we find many ways to have fun!

Diversity and Inclusion

We are dedicated to fostering and advancing our goal of an inclusive environment.

Companies that have diversity in age, gender identity, race, sexual orientation, physical ability, ethnicity, and perspective are proven to be better companies. Celebrating and caring for the individual is a core belief at Floyd|Snider, and we continue to seek meaningful opportunities to improve in this way.

Firm-wide workshops around bias, bystander training, and better communication

Annual one-on-one meetings to facilitate discussions about career aspirations and management support

Diversity and Inclusion newsletter to promote and facilitate dialogue

Employee engagement through dynamic teams and office social activities organized by staff

Avoid the status quo by encouraging staff to explore new skillsets to strengthen projects

Promote equity through staff ownership of our company values

Today, and every day, we stand with members of our community who continue to suffer injustices due to the color of their skin. We support the Black Lives Matter movement and are adding our voice to the call to end systemic racism.

We know there is work to be done, both in the world and at Floyd|Snider. We are committed to doing the following:

Support a diversity, equity, and inclusion team to work closely with firm leadership to identify opportunities and recommendations for continual organizational improvement.

Be willing to have difficult conversations about race and equity both internally and with our business partners to promote antiracism and social equity.

Provide employee trainings and experiences to nurture a more justice- and inclusion-forward workplace and business. Create space to listen to underrepresented voices. Seek out and support diverse thinking, perspectives, and experiences.

Support and participate in initiatives to achieve more BIPOC representation in environmental science and engineering fields. Implement continual improvements to our hiring process to enhance diversity in applicants.

Support BIPOC-owned businesses. Build relationships with local nonprofits and donate from our earnings to help support real change, improve racial equity, and address impacts of climate change and pollution on historically marginalized groups.

Giving Back

We dedicate our time and resources to help improve the social and environmental health of our community.

Floyd|Snider is proud to provide its staff with 40 hours of paid volunteer time each year to work in service of nonprofit organizations of their choosing. Since we started this program, our employees give an average of 400 to 500 hours per year to community groups throughout the Puget Sound area.

Maddie Steenis

Maddie Steenis, a geologist, has volunteered at Camp Agape Northwest (CANW) nearly every summer since 2011. CANW is a cost-free, week-long summer camp for children with cancer and their families. This camp focuses on providing a space for children with cancer to connect with others who understand their journey, for siblings to feel seen and celebrated, and for parents to find strength in community. Maddie has served as a buddy, paired with one child for the week to ensure they have an awesome, silly, and safe experience. She currently serves as a lead cook, providing nutritious meals and snacks for the families and volunteers (~200 people). Maddie has also worked closely with the CANW Board to help organize and implement fundraising activities, including a 5K fun run, bingo nights, and silent auctions.

Evan Malczyk

Evan Malczyk, a senior environmental scientist, volunteered with Oregon Natural Desert Association (ONDA) at Beatys Butte in Southeastern Oregon. ONDA is a non-profit organization that defends public lands from threats, partners with public and private land managers to preserve natural values, and restores lands and waters to support healthy habitat for wildlife. Evan installed fencing to exclude cattle from high value habitat and built streamed structures out of organic materials to build up the water table and counteract destruction done by cattle grazing.
