Floyd|Snider has teamed with Seattle-based nonprofit Long Live the Kings in their yearly event Survive the Sound to promote awareness around the challenges facing steelhead, Washington’s state fish, migrating in the Puget Sound. Survive the Sound is an interactive online game, where students and the general public are invited to follow the spring migration path of their favorite fish character out of the Nisqually, Skokomish, and Duwamish rivers using real fish data. During the 5-day migration, everyone develops a deeper connection to the local environment and the movement that is growing to protect it.

Habitat destruction, predators, and disease are just a few factors contributing to a tough life for steelhead and salmon in the Puget Sound. Salmon populations, once boasting numbers in the millions, have diminished to less than 10% of the historical average. With salmon struggling, so are the resident killer whales and humans who depend on them. The stakes to recover these species have never been higher.
