Lisa Meoli Honored with 2026 David Douglas Award from the Washington State Historical Society!
We are excited to announce that Senior Environmental Historian, Lisa Meoli, has been selected as a 2026 recipient of the David Douglas Award from the Washington State Historical Society (WSHS)! Lisa received this recognition for her volunteer StoryMaps project Trails through Time: Contamination and Restoration in the West Duwamish Greenbelt, completed in partnership with the Southwest Seattle Historical Society – Log House Museum and West Duwamish Greenbelt Trails. The David Douglas Award honors individuals making significant contributions to the field of history in Washington through writing, teaching, historical projects, and cultural diversity. Trails through Time is a living digital repository designed to keep growing, preserving, and expanding the environmental and cultural history of the West Duwamish Greenbelt.
Lisa will be celebrated at the WSHS Annual History Awards on April 25, 2026, from 5:30 to 8:00 PM at the Washington State History Museum in Tacoma, Washington. The evening will feature a reception and awards ceremony with a keynote presentation by historian, author, and educator Dr. Johann N. Neem of Western Washington University, who will explore the history of civic engagement as the nation marks its 250th anniversary.
Lisa collaborated on this StoryMaps project with GIS Analyst Ainsley McCullough. The two of them recently presented on their work with integrating archival research with modern geospatial tools at the AEHS Annual Conference.
